Respondents to the survey were asked how much they spent a year on underwear. Singles, on average, spent £158.80 whereas those in relationships on average spent £75.60.

The study also wanted to uncover how many of us actually wear those lovely matching sets that we can’t help but buy.

Over three quarters of women said that they do own matching sets of underwear but it was singles that wore them more often.

Fifty six per cent of single women said that they would wearing their matching sets at least once per week, whereas 62 per cent of women in a relationship said they only wore their sets once every other week.

Men were a completely different story. Single men spent an average of £28 a year on underwear, compared to those in a relationship spent on average £74.50 meaning that they spend nearly triple that of single men!

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said, “Let’s face it- we all have to fork out for underwear as one of life’s necessities, so we wanted to look into how buying habits differ when it comes to single men and women , and those in relationships.

“Our results show that single women seem to dedicate quite a bit more money towards their underwear choices, but this wasn’t translated to the male species; with single men spending an average of £45 less on their pants per year.

“It’s clear that whilst single females seemingly take more care with their underwear collection, single men care a lot less than their coupled-up counterparts.”

How important do you think buying new underwear is? And do you spend more when you’re in a relationship or when you’re single?
