Half of women never let their partner see their natural hair colour according to Crown Clinic.

They know if you;re hiding something!

They know if you;re hiding something!

Eight out of ten women keep secrets from their partner regarding their hair colour and cost in a bid to pretend that their hair is all natural.

Six out of ten women don't tell their partner how much they spend on their regular hair cut- for fear that they will judge them or ask them to look elsewhere. But as a woman, I know how hard it is to find a good hairdresser that understands your needs and for that reason- it's worth spending a little extra. However- on the cut not the colour.

74% of women are bashful about growing old in front of their partner and will pluck out rogue grey hairs before their partner can see.

61% of women start dyeing their locks as soon as the first grey hair peeps through. In fact many men have never seen their partner's natural hair because they believe they look better with dye on their hair and are afraid what their partner will think of their real tones.

This hair embarrassment extends to men also- as they do the same things women do to hide the tell-tale signs of ageing from their loved one.

With so many celebrities who go to amazing lengths to disguise the inevitable indicators of getting old, it's no surprise that we feel the pressure to so the same. The X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, 32, admitted recently that she had found her first grey hair, and she quickly plucked it out.

She said: "its fine, I've accepted it. But I plucked it out immediately."

Hair transplant surgeon Asim Shahmalak from Crown Clinic said "You see very few leading female stars who dare to show their true hair colour if they are going grey.

"Similarly, male stars go to extraordinary lengths to cover their baldness with hair transplants, hair weaves and clever changes of style.

5 Reasons to grow old gracefully with your partner:

You partner knows: If you dye your hair- they see you before you go to the salon for a touch up or before you apply an at home hair dye- why cover up your natural beauty?

Growing old is part of life- They can't condemn you for showing signs of getting old- we all get them, so embrace how your body (and hair) is changing- it's far more attractive than hiding it.

Grey is in- Many celebrities are sporting a salt and pepper effect in their hair or even just a mallen streak and it fast becoming both sexy and sophisticated. Your partner might just find it very attractive on you.

You will get bored- There will come a point when you will say 'enough' to hair dye- and just let it go- so why not do it gradually rather than a shock transformation? You will look much older if you have your hair stripped of hair dye all at once, than if you let it slowly grow in.

It will save you money- That extra money you spend on a dye every month or so could be put towards doing something with your partner instead- why not save it up and treat yourself to a weekend away or a surprise for them?
