Annie Lennox has been granted an OBE in Britain's Queen Elizabeth's New Year Honours List for 2011.
The 56-year-old Eurythmics singer was recognised in the annual list with an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her charity work fighting Aids and poverty in Africa.
She said: "I'm honoured to receive an OBE because as somewhat of a renegade it either means I've done something terribly right - or they've done something terribly wrong".
Meanwhile, celebrated author Lady Antonia Fraser - the widow of Harold Pinter - is to receive a damehood after winning the award for services to literature.
However, she admitted she may need to brush on her etiquette by taking a few tips from 'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellows.
She joked: "I think I will consult Julian Fellows."
Elsewhere, the campaign to secure a knighthood for 'Strictly Come Dancing' host Bruce Forsyth was overlooked this year, with many fans left disappointed.
Queen Elizabeth's honours system is a way of recognising individuals' bravery, service or achievement to the United Kingdom.
