The theatre - which was the first outside London to use the 'royal' title - was saved from closure in the 70s by businessman Jeremy Fry, a friend of the previous patron, the late Princess Margaret.Theatre Royal director Danny Moar said: "We've had an association with royalty for 200 years, so this is a great privilege and something we are very excited about."
