Britain's Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, had to fend off advances from several boisterous dogs during an official trip yesterday (29.01.09).
The royal - who is married to Prince Charles - was visiting several of the Metropolitan Police's animal divisions when she was set upon by three feisty pooches.
After looking around a Surrey training centre - where she was treated to a display of horses jumping through rings of fire - the duchess visited a police dog-training centre in Kent, England, where 16-month old German Shepherd Gunner bit her brown patterned scarf and tried to pull it from her.
He's embarrassed! At the centre, Camilla saw a framed letter from Charles' son Prince Harry which was written when he was seven and thanked dog handlers for performing at his birthday party
Camilla - who is a dog enthusiast and has two Jack Russells, Tosca and Rose - laughed off the advances, but Gunner's handler PC Matt Geeves was less impressed.
He said: "This always happens to me... He's embarrassed!"
At the centre, Camilla saw a framed letter from Charles' son Prince Harry which was written when he was seven and thanked dog handlers for performing at his birthday party.
It said: "Thank you for coming to my party. I enjoyed the display very much and so did my friends."
Later, Camilla had her hair ruffled by an over-enthusiastic German Shepherd puppy and then had a third dog jump up on her, covering her in muddy footprints. An aide of the Camilla's said: "The duchess adores animals, especially dogs and horses, and had a fabulous day. She wasn't fazed one bit and I think she rather fancied taking one or two of the puppies home!"
