Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria and her new husband Daniel Westling have moved into their own castle near Stockholm.

Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria and her new husband Daniel Westling have moved into a castle - a wedding present from the Swedish government.

The heir to the throne and her former personal trainer Daniel were handed the lavish Haga Palace, north of Stockholm, to celebrate their June nuptials.

The decision came on the government's initiative and meant that the castle was returned to the King's disposition. It also made it possible for the Crown Princess to occupy the castle.

While the princess' father King Carl Gustaf was born in the castle in 1946 and lived there for the first year of his life, the family moved out when his father died unexpectedly in a place crash the following year.

In 1966, the king's grandfather, then-King Gustaf VI Adolf transferred the castle's disposal to the government.

However as the castle has only been used occasionally over the years to put up distinguished foreign guests, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt decided to hand it back to the royals to celebrate the nuptials.

Royal spokesperson Annika Sönnerberg told Sweden's Aftonbladet newspaper: "They've been looking forward to this for a long time

"The decision came on the government's initiative and meant that the castle was returned to the King's disposition. It also made it possible for the Crown Princess to occupy the castle."

The royal pair enjoyed a six week honeymoon to America and a beach holiday on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti.

Since then, they have made official state visits to France in September, China in October and Finland earlier this month.
