Britain's Duchess Catherine thrilled the US gymnastics team when she visited them on Sunday (05.08.12).

Aly Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, Kyla Ross and Gabby Douglas were delighted when the duchess - who was known as Kate Middleton before marrying Prince William last year - took the time to speak with them after the vault competition at the North Greenwich Arena.

Team captain Aly tweeted: "Just met princess Kate with @jordyn_wieber @kyla_ross96 & @gabrielledoug she is beautiful & so nice! I told her I loved her style lol :). (sic)"

Jordyn added: "Can't believe I just met Princess Kate Middleton! She was in the crowd at the competition and she stood up to talk to us! #honored.(sic)"

The squad's fifth member, McKayla Maroney, missed out on meeting the royal as she was taking part in the vault final.

Catherine has taken in a number of events at the 2012 Olympics and has seen Team GB win several gold medals.

Last week, she and William couldn't hide their delight as they took seats in the velodrome to watch the men's sprinting team win with a record-breaking time.

On Saturday (04.08.12), she and William watched as Jessica Ennis, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah all took the gold at the Olympic stadium.
