Britain's Princess Diana's brother, Earl Charles Spencer, still has nightmares about her funeral.

Britain's Princess Diana's brother still has nightmares about her funeral.

My role in their life is as a figure they can trust and who won't talk.

Earl Charles Spencer can still remember how he walked behind his sister's coffin on the way to her funeral in 1997 - after she died in a car crash in Paris aged 36 - and the chilling day still disturbs him even now.

He told OK! magazine: "I'd had to walk behind my sisters body for half an hour and that was such a horrible thing. I still have nightmares about that. I never have dreams or nightmares about the speech I had to give, but I can hear the bridles and the hooves and all the metal work on the horses, and their hooves and the wailing of the crowd. I have never been in such a nightmarish place in my life."

The earl has maintained a close relationship with his nephews - Princes William and Harry, Diana's sons with Prince Charles - and explained he will always be a confidant to them.

He added: "My role in their life is as a figure they can trust and who won't talk."

Charles - who has four children - is also focusing on his own life, and is preparing to marry for a third time, to Canadian philanthropist Karen Gordon, this June.
