Sir Paul McCartney is a "big fan of" Britain's Queen Elizabeth.
The Beatles musician hinted he could play at the monarch's Diamond Jubilee later this year, as he believes she is a great figurehead for the country.
He said: "I think she's great and does a great job. People say, 'Ugh, the monarchy and all that', but what are you going to get in return?
"[Prime Minister] David Cameron? I'm not sure I want him to represent all of Britain. So if I get asked I could easily do it."
Paul is also rumoured to be in line to celebrate the 2012 London Olympics by playing at the opening ceremony in July.
He added: "I am seeing the guy because there is something they want me to do. I might be doing something in the Olympics. I won't know until then."
Paul's old bandmate Ringo Starr - the only other surviving member of The Beatles - recently told how they still hang out together.
He said: "We do hang out a bit but we're not in each other's pockets, and if the opportunity is real, I've played on a couple of his records, he's played on mine."
However, Ringo ruled out a reunion at the Olympics as he is booked to be on tour in the US at that time.
