Britain's Prince Charles will jet to Turkey to mark the 90th anniversary of World War I's ill-fated Gallipoili campaign. The Prince of Wales, who is currently honeymooning in Scotland with new wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, will fly out the Greek/Turkish border to commemorate Anzac Day on April 25th.The newlywed prince will visit the Turkish front line, which was manned by Australian and New Zealand soldiers, where he will be joined by Australian president, John Howard for a memorial service at the Lone Pine cemetery. But the prince is not expected to be joined by his new wife on the trip. Royal insiders say the duchess will remain in Britain until the couple's first official overseas tour to the United States later this year.More than 20,000 British servicemen were killed in the doomed eight-month campaign, which was designed to allow an attack on Germany from the east. But Antipodean soldiers suffered huge losses under the searing heat of the region and a lack of clean drinking water, before they were eventually beaten into submission by native Turkish troops.0Comments | Be the first to comment!
