Britain's Prince Charles was hit on the shoulder by a football yesterday (28.04.05) during his first official visit since his marriage to Camilla Parker Bowles. The prince, who was attending the opening of a London sports centre with his new wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, was hit by a stray shot from 11-year-old Peter Roberts. The schoolboy joked with the prince afterwards, telling him, "Good save", before the ball was kicked away by one of the royal's bodyguards. But the good-natured prince later poked fun at the incident in a speech to mark the official opening of 'The Hub', a multi-million pound sports facility in the capital. He said: "I much enjoyed meeting some of the children who have been dragged in especially for their football skills."But I did think their accuracy needs to be improved."As I was walking away, the ball hit be square in the shoulder blades."The newlywed couple, who ended their two-week honeymoon in Scotland this week, braved wet and windy conditions for the visit.
Later, the Duchess of Cornwall, keen to improve her public image, joked with the gathered children as the elements wreaked havoc with her coiffed hair.
Struggling with her umbrella in the wind, she said: "I'm going to go off like Mary Poppins."
