Britain's Prince Charles is preparing to launch his Duchy Originals range in the US.

The 60-year-old royal told the Organic Centre in California that his products will soon be appearing on American shelves.

He said: "I cannot tell you how heartening it is to me, personally, that plans to launch Duchy Originals in the USA are now well advanced."

"I hope that, through my American company, I will be able to add my own small contribution to your excellent work in promoting organic or genuinely sustainable agriculture as a durable way of life for family farmers and future generations of Americans."

Duchy Originals has faced criticism recently, with scientists claiming some products - like the herbal detox tincture - were "outright quackery", and potentially dangerous.

The company was also forced to change the wording of a campaign promoting two herbal medicines earlier this week after a British regulatory authorities ruled claims in the advert were misleading.

to promote organic food and farming and to help protect and sustain the countryside and wildlife

Adverts for Duchy Herbals Echina-Relief Tincture and Duchy Herbals Hyperi-Lift Tincture appeared on the company's website in January.

A member of the public later complained the adverts were deceptive because they suggested the effectiveness of the products had been scientifically proven.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency upheld the complaint. It granted Duchy Originals a licence to sell the remedies but banned the company from making any claims about the effects of its remedies.

The Duchy Originals brand was established by the Prince in 1990 "to promote organic food and farming and to help protect and sustain the countryside and wildlife".
