Britain's Prince Charles is to open his family home in Wales to the public for the first time.

The heir to the throne will allow fans to look around the 13-bedroom property in Llwynywermod, Carmarthenshire, as part of a scheme to showcase the nation's most important properties.

Charles and his wife Camilla have used the stunning home as their base for the past two years when taking their annual tour of Wales.

The prince bought the former coach house and run down country home - which boasts a 200-acre estate - in 2006 and completely renovated it with the help of local builders and craftsmen and women.

The Open Doors scheme sees a range of buildings from private homes to archaeological sites and castles being opened to the public throughout September.

Charles is also set to open his gardens at Clarence House for the first time later this month, using the grounds for a 12-day garden party to raise money for the his Start initiative, which promotes sustainable living.

A Garden Party To Make A Difference - which launches next Wednesday (September 8) - will feature a host of activities, live performances, exhibitions and interactive displays, while broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby, comedic television presenter Clive Anderson and actor Sanjeev Bhaskar will chair a series of debates.
