Britain's Prince Charles has come under fire for using a private train costing £50,000 for his "green" tour of the UK.
The heir to the throne - who embarked on a week-long tour of the UK to promote "sustainable living" yesterday (06.09.10) - has been scorned by environmental groups for the costly trip on the Royal Train which they claim is being run on "morally questionable" bio-fuel.
A spokesperson for The Green Party, which has previously supported the prince's environmental campaigns, said: "At a time when people are facing cuts in public services, the idea of a private train costing £50,000 more than ordinary first class tickets might seem a bit insensitive."
Director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation Benny Peiser has called on the prince, who this week is promoting cycling as part of his Start campaign, to "practice what he preaches".

He told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "His lifestyle creates a carbon footprint which is 100 times that of any other person in the UK.
"If he is really concerned about the environment, he should stop using cars, planes or in this case trains.
"Bio-fuels are morally dubious as they are grains that are grown specifically to be used for energy and not food.
"We have millions of people starving around the world and bio-fuels are pushing up the price of food."
Yesterday, Charles visited an initiative promoting cycling in Glasgow before getting back on the train to Edinburgh to visit its two-day festival on sustainability.
A Clarence House spokesman said: "It is not practical to use scheduled trains in such a busy programme which has ten locations in five days. On this occasion the Royal Train was the best solution."
