Britain's Prince Edward is still waiting for a painting of his wedding to Sophie Rhys-Jones nine years after they married.
Royal artist Richard Stone - who was commissioned by the couple to paint the piece to mark their ceremony on January 6, 1999 - confessed the project is still not going to be ready until next year.
He said: "I didn't ever discuss with Prince Edward how long it was going to take, but I never envisaged it would take me this long. I suppose I would like them to think that if something is worth having, it is worth waiting for."
The 57-year-old artist is finding it hard to complete the portrait because three of the principal figures from the ceremony at royal Berkshire residence Windsor Castle's St George's Chapel are now dead.
The deceased members are Edward's aunt Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother and Sophie's mother Mary Rhys-Jones.
The painting, which measures 11ft by 6ft, depicts over 100 guests and features intricate details including light coming through the stained glass windows and banners of knights on the chapel walls.
Stone added to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "It was always going to be a large undertaking. But no one has been pestering me about when it will be ready and I am really grateful about that."
