Britain's Prince Edward had "a bit of slap and tickle" with Ulrika Jonsson.

The UK TV presenter - who was photographed with the prince in 1989 - has previously refused to reveal any details about their relationship, but has now confirmed they enjoyed several dates together.

She said: "I did not sleep with Prince Edward. There were a few dates, a bit of a slap and tickle."

Ulrika first met the prince when she attended a garden party with James Baker, a presenter on breakfast TV show 'TV-am' where Ulrika worked as a secretary.

The meeting passed without incident, but Ulrika's second meeting with Edward was to prove more important.

She told Piers Morgan's 'Life Stories' television program: "James Baker was very good friends, and still is, with Prince Edward and literally said to me, 'Come on, we're going out for an evening at the theatre.'

No way is he gay. I know for a fact. I'm not saying, but he certainly finds women attractive.

"We went to the theatre and I got out of the car at the same time as him and we ended up alongside each other. It all happened so quickly.

"The next day I was at the station taking the train in from Slough to Paddington and saw my face on the front page and nearly fainted. I was very excited but I didn't know what it meant. I certainly wasn't anything more than a friend of a friend at that stage."

Ulrika has previously publicly dismissed rumours about Edward's sexuality, saying: "No way is he gay. I know for a fact. I'm not saying, but he certainly finds women attractive."

The prince married Sophie Rhys-Jones in June 1999. They have two children, Louise, five and 15-month-old James.

Ulrika is not the only UK TV presenter to open up about her relationship with a member of the royal family.

Myleene Klass has revealed Queen Elizabeth's husband Prince Philip was very taken with her when they met at the 2003 Royal Variety Performance, where she gave an energetic performance on the piano.

She said: "In the line-up afterwards, Prince Philip said to me, 'You're fit, aren't you?' I fell about laughing!' "
