Denmark's Prince Frederik has had to postpone his World Masters Games debut.

The prince was set to compete in the sailing programme and rowing regatta in Sydney but the race was delayed due to strong winds in Australia.

Frederik - who will now see his eight-race program in the open Tasar class compressed into three days, starting tomorrow (14.10.09) - faces stiff competition from former Olympic gold medallists Tom King, who was champion in 2000, and 2008's Beijing champion Malcolm Page.

All of the competitors are particularly keen to beat the prince regardless of how well they do in the competition.

I am feeling a bit for him because everybody is going to know where he is on the track and it is hard enough as it is when you get out there.

Malcolm said: "We've only got one boat to beat. It's all about the prince. I don't care if we come second-last, we've got to beat the prince. There's good, friendly rivalry and that will be our main objective, for sure.

"He's a very good sailor. Thank goodness he hasn't seen a Tasar before but he will be a fierce competitor."

However, the other competitors admit the prince - who has previously finished fourth in the Farr 40 world titles - will be difficult to beat.

Former Olympian Karyn Gojnich told Australia's Brisbane Times newspaper: "I haven't met him but I know he is a great sailor and we are all looking forward to sailing against him.

"I am feeling a bit for him because everybody is going to know where he is on the track and it is hard enough as it is when you get out there."
