Britain's Prince Harry has invited the soldier he referred to as his "p**I friend" to lunch.
The prince - who provoked widespread criticism when video footage of his military training revealed he used the racial slur against a fellow cadet - has invited Captain Ahmed Raza Khan to visit St. James' Palace.
A source told Britain's The Sun: "Harry jumped at the chance of meeting his friend again. Bizarrely, they have struck up a close relationship since the race row broke.
"Harry still feels embarrassed by what he said and wants to see Ahmed to say sorry to him personally. He appreciated how well Ahmed handled the situation and helped defuse the controversy."
I'll meet up with Prince Harry. I have told him many times he is my friend.
Speaking through a friend, Ahmed confirmed: "I'll meet up with Prince Harry. I have told him many times he is my friend."
Ahmed - who will visit Harry while on a month's leave from the Pakistan Army - was recently honoured for bravery after being shot in a battle with the Taliban.
Army bosses ordered Harry to attend an equality and diversity course to make him understand how offensive his remarks were.
The incident will also be entered in Harry's official army record; although insiders claim it will have no effect on his career.
One said: "Although this matter will go on Harry's record it will not go against him."
Clarence House insisted: "Prince Harry has said sorry for his remarks and has been subjected to normal army disciplinary procedures. The matter is now closed."
This is the second time Harry has been given equality lessons since joining the army - all new recruits complete a course to teach them about the diversity of cultures in Britain.
Harry publicly apologised when the video - which was made in 2006 during his final year of officer training at the Royal Military Academy in Camberley, Surrey - first came to light in January, explaining he had not meant to be malicious.
