Britain's Prince Harry has given his backing to a trek by wounded servicemen to the North Pole.

The prince - who is patron of the Walking With the Wounded charity which is organising the month long hike to the remote location next year - will announce further details of their journey later today (19.03.10), when he officially launches the event at The Rifles Club in London.

Speaking of the trek, which will see the amputees haul heavy sledges over 300 miles from Siberia across the frozen Arctic Ocean, Harry said: "This polar adventure will exemplify the tenacity and courage of those who serve in uniform.

The trek, which will see the men pass through tough terrain and face hazards along the way such as polar bears, will raise money to help rehabilitate wounded servicemen.

Expedition leader Ed Parker added: "These guys have such extraordinary courage and determination... we felt doing something extraordinary like this would show these guys are extraordinary people."
