Prince Philip's Population Protest

1 month ago 01st Oct 14:00

Britain's Prince Philip thinks there are too many people in the UK.

The outspoken royal has hit out at the bulging population of the country, insisting it is to blame for the environmental problems the world is experiencing.

He said: "People go on about this carbon footprint, but they fail to realise that the amount of carbon going into the atmosphere is entirely dependent on the number of people living on the Earth.

Villages used to have to be more or less self-sufficient: they had a butcher, a baker, a shoemaker. Now that has all gone because of the way retailing is concentrated in big centres and multi-stores.

"There are now 60million people living in this country and we are about the same land size as New Zealand - this country had three million people in Elizabeth I's day."

Philip - who has a history to voicing his controversial views - also lashed out at people who own two homes.

The prince insists commuters who live in the city during the week and retire to their country abodes at weekends are ruining rural life.

He told Shooting Times + Country Magazine: "The country villages have changed from being places where people who were associated with the countryside were living and now most of them are second homes occupied by commuters.

"Villages used to have to be more or less self-sufficient: they had a butcher, a baker, a shoemaker. Now that has all gone because of the way retailing is concentrated in big centres and multi-stores."

I do hope he realises that if the population was less his allowance would also be less.
