Prince William and Prince Harry would consider becoming Australia's next Governor-Generals if asked.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the young princes would give the idea "very serious consideration" if they were to be offered the post by the Australian government.
William, 27 - who is currently training to become an RAF search and rescue pilot, and Harry, 25, who wants to fly Apache attack helicopters with the Army Air Corps - are both keen to take on the role, despite the fact their father, Prince Charles, has already been rejected for the position.
Unfortunately for William and Harry it is believed Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is unlikely to consider a non-Australian for the role
A Buckingham Palace spokesman told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "They are a matter for the Australian and Canadian governments. It would not be appropriate for the royal family to say Prince William or Prince Harry is up for the job."
Prince Charles was keen to get the position in the 1980s but missed out on the title.
Unfortunately for William and Harry it is believed Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is unlikely to consider a non-Australian for the role.
He previously stated there was "a great place for the British royals, and it's in Britain."
William will visit Australia for three days in January as part of an official trip to New Zealand on behalf of his grandmother, the Queen.
