Britain's Prince William is so "shy" he takes his girlfriend to a restaurant where food is served in the pitch dark.

The 27-year-old royal enjoys dining at Dans Le Noir eatery, in London's trendy Clerkenwell district, because no one can see him cuddling up to Kate Middleton.

The pair - who have been dating on and off for eight years - like the privacy so much, they have been back to the restaurant several times.

Meanwhile, Kate raised money for children's charity the Starlight Foundation on Saturday night (26.09.09) when she hosted a table at an auction gala in London.

The 27-year-old brunette beauty wore a full-length grey silk Issa gown, and was accompanied by a tuxedo-clad William.

After the event, the couple joined William's brother Prince Harry at Raffles nightclub in Chelsea, where they partied until 3am.
