Britain's Princess Diana was "very proud" to wear thermal underwear.

The late royal - who died in a car accident in 1997 - enjoyed announcing she was sporting the warm undergarments, according to her fashion designer David Sassoon.

When she was going into the fitting room, she would say, 'Just a minute, let me take my thermals off

He said: "She was very proud of the fact that she wore thermals because she didn't like overcoats.

"When she was going into the fitting room, she would say, 'Just a minute, let me take my thermals off.' I think she enjoyed all that."

David's new book 'The Glamour of Bellville Sassoon' includes a thank you note Diana wrote to him after he provided her with a floral dress - a bright blue, short-sleeved number decorated with pink, purple, green and yellow flowers - which soon became her favourite even though royal advisors told her not to wear it.

David said: "She would say, 'I keep being told not to wear it, but I love this dress, my caring dress.' Of course Diana was the first member of the royal family to break all the rules."

The designer also praised Diana as a "red carpet glamour girl", claiming he would make more risque frocks for her to wear outside of the public eye.
