Princess Diana Exhibition Opens In America

A travelling exhibition about Britain's Princess Diana opens in Philadelphia today (02.10.09).

It is the first time the 'Diana: A Celebration' exhibit, which is loaned from the Althorp Estate - the princess' ancestral home where her body is buried - has been displayed in America since 2007 and runs until December 31 at the National Constitution Center.

The exhibition explores the princess' life from childhood, encompassing her marriage to Prince Charles, their children Princes William and Harry and her charity work until her death in 1997.

National Constitution Center President and CEO Linda E. Johnson said: "This exhibition is a remarkable tribute to Princess Diana's life and work.

"Because she was admired by millions across the globe, we expect Diana: A Celebration to have broad appeal, which will allow the Center to expand its audience and, in turn, introduce more visitors to the remarkable stories of 'We the People' celebrated here every day."

The exhibition features over 150 artefacts across nine galleries, including Childhood, Spencer Women, Engagement, Royal Wedding, Tiara Gallery, Style and Fashion, Her Work, Tribute, and Condolences.

It includes her wedding gown, diamond tiara, 25ft train, shoes, parasol , shoes and bridesmaid's dress, musical score and handwritten lyrics to the version of 'Candle In The Wind' sung by Elton John at Diana's funeral and the hand-edited text of her brother Charles Spencer's funeral tribute.

There are also 28 designer dresses, suits and gowns, 17th and 18th century family paintings from the Althorp Estate, home movies from the princess' childhood, personal letters and photographs.
