A comic based on the life of Britain's Princess Diana has been branded "disgusting" by royal fans for graphically illustrating her death.

The tome - entitled 'Female Force: Princess Diana' - written by Chris Arrant has been promoted as a book featuring memorable events in her life and includes drawings of the Paris tunnel where she was killed in a car crash in 1997 and pictures of her two sons at her funeral.

Margaret Funnell, co-founder of the Diana Circle UK memorial group said: "It's disgusting. Their feeble excuse is that they wanted to show the young people of America her life. They could have done it with lovely stories. They didn't need to stoop to this.

It's disgusting. Their feeble excuse is that they wanted to show the young people of America her life. They could have done it with lovely stories. They didn't need to stoop to this.

"I find it quite cruel them showing the funeral. Had she lived until she was 85 and had a lovely life, that would be different. This girl lost her life in her prime.

"Comic means something to laugh at. I don't find it at all comical and I wish they hadn't done it. Anyone with half a brain who had a love for Diana will hate it."

The book also includes her parents' divorce, her marriage to Prince Charles and her relationship with Dodi Fayed.

Darren Davis, from publisher Bluewater Comics, said of the comic: "It's aimed at everybody. We want kids to read it because it's a comic book.

"We've found that some of the people reading the books are women buying them for their daughters. We want girls to learn what she has done.

"We also wanted to look at an admirable British icon who won hearts around the world as a princess, public figure, philanthropist and parent."
