An investigative journalist claims a "tidal wave of evidence" undermines the official conclusion into Britain's Princess Diana's death.

John Morgan claims in his book 'Diana Inquest: The Untold Story' that Parisian investigators bungled the inquiry and believes there was a subsequent cover-up by the authorities in France over the death of Diana and her lover Dodi Fayed.

An official inquiry into the death of the couple - who died when their car crashed in a Parisian tunnel while being chased by paparazzi in 1997 - found no evidence of foul play, although their driver Henri Paul was found grossly negligent as he was more than three times the drink-drive limit.

Morgan claims in his book, however, that Henri Paul was not drunk and documents prove there was a second body in the morgue when tests were carried out.

When you carefully put all the pieces of this huge complex evidential jigsaw together, you can see this is a dead person who has been framed.

He said: "When you carefully put all the pieces of this huge complex evidential jigsaw together, you can see this is a dead person who has been framed."

Morgan claims there were inconsistencies in the blood samples taken and errors in identifying the body.

He added: "Were it not so serious, I would say the inquest carried out at the Royal Courts of Justice in London was a joke."

Confusion over whether the samples were taken from Mr. Paul's body was suggested at the inquest.

Dodi's father, tycoon Mohammed AL Fayed, has long held that there was foul play involved in the death of his son and Diana.
