Britain's Princess Eugenie left a party only a few moments before a knife fight.

The 19-year-old royal - who is Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter and sixth in line to the throne - was out partying at the China Gorilla rave at Notting Hill's Liquid Nation nightclub, when friends invited her to an after-party in a nearby house.

Eugenie attended the bash, but left after less than an hour. Minutes later, a violent scuffle broke out between two male guests, with one man pulling a knife.

Most of the guests were public school friends and students from Newcastle University

A source told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "It was an impromptu after-party on the wrong side of Notting Hill. Eugenie was there with some friends but fortunately she left minutes before the fight broke out.

"It seems one of the guests, who was a bit of a stray, pulled out a knife. Most of the guests were public school friends and students from Newcastle University.

"Everyone was shocked. In a way it would have been better if Eugenie had been there so her policeman could have broken up the fight."

It's not the first time Eugenie's safety has been threatened.

The princess - who studies English and History of Art at Newcastle University - was nearly mugged on a recent visit to Cambodia.
