Britain's Princess Eugenie's boyfriend Jack Brooksbank is reportedly a distant cousin.

The royal couple - who have been dating for several months - are both apparently related to Thomas William Coke, the 2nd Earl of Leicester.

A source said: "The connection makes Jack Brooksbank and Princess Eugenie half third cousins, twice removed."

This royal link will surprise critics who believed Jack had no aristocratic connections.

The 20-year-old princess first stepped out with her new boyfriend in May at swanky Cuckoo Club in London's Mayfair earlier this year, having recently separated from polo player Otto Brockway.

At the time a source said: "They have been seeing each other for the past month and Eugenie is very happy. She is a very down-to-earth girl and is taking it one step at a time."

The princess' cousin Prince Williams was also revealed to be distantly related to his girlfriend Kate Middleton last month.

The pair - who have been dating on and off for almost eight years - are related to each other by an Elizabethan soldier named Sir Thomas Leighton.

He is William's 12th generation great-grandparent, and Kate's 11th - meaning the pair are 12th cousins, once removed.
