Holland's Princess Maxima and her husband Willem-Alexander enjoyed a romantic end to their four-day trip to Mexico - at the top of the country's pyramid of the sun.

The royal pair climbed the 248 steps to the summit of the 75 metre structure to take in the breathtaking views of the valley of Mexico.

They had earlier toured the Teotihuacan ruins with Queen Beatrix before scaling the pyramid alone which dates back to 100 BC.

The couple were snapped embracing and smiling as they took in the views before waving to Willem's mother, the queen, below.

The royal duo have a history of enjoying interesting activities together - after they went rollerblading on their first date.

The Argentinian-born beauty, 38, invited the Crown Prince Willem-Alexander to an afternoon of skating in a New York park after they met in Spain.

She recently admitted: "When I lived and worked as a banker in New York City in the late 1990s, Battery Park was still very much under construction.

"Personally, I have special memories of this place: Battery Park is where I went out rollerblading with a nice Dutchman I had met, who would later ask me to marry him, and to become a Princess of the Netherlands in the process."
