Japan's princess Nori is celebrating her 36th birthday today (17.04.05).The princess, who is Emporor Akihito and Empress Michiko's only daughter, used the opportunity to thank her parents for their support as she prepares to leave the royal fold.In a written statement released on Thursday she wrote: What I think has been truly meaningful for me is to have lived for the past 36 years with Their Majesties and to have been able to observe and learn from them.Today's celebrations will be the last regal birthday for Nori, who will relinquish her royal status when she marries commoner Yoshiki Kuroda, later this year. But despite the dramatic changes, the princess seemed positive about swapping her royal status for more understated married life. She added: I am grateful that I will be able to go about my activities without affecting a large number of people (as I have done as a princess). The 36-year-old princess also made reference to the health of her troubled sister-in-law, Princess Masako. The 40-year-old royal, who is married to Nori's brother, Crown Prince Naruhito, has withdrawn from public life for more than a year blaming an adjustment disorder.
But Nori added in her statement that she believed her sister-in-law was well on the way to recovery.
