Karl Lagerfeld thinks Britain's Queen Elizabeth looks "better than ever".
The Chanel designer believes the 85-year-old monarch has changed her style in the past few years to reflect her personality and he thinks she looks fantastic.
He told French newspaper Metro: "I think [Queen Elizabeth] looks very good in her recent photos even better than a few years ago -beautiful, a bit like Queen Mary. She looks a little bit like her grandmother - a more smiley version. In terms of what she wears, she's come into herself a little bit more - whatever that is."
However, although Karl, 78, admires Queen Elizabeth's style, he admitted he doesn't see the point of having a monarchy, branding the institution "totally unnecessary".
He added: "It's good for the tourists because it brings a lot of money in. It's totally unnecessary, but it's pleasant. Why not have the monarchy? People can dream about it."
Yesterday (06.02.12) marked 60 years since Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne following the death of her father King George VI and she revealed she hopes to reign for the rest of her life.
She said in a statement: "In this special year, as I dedicate myself anew to your service, I hope that we will all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the convening strength of family, friendship and good neighbourliness.
"I hope also that this jubilee year will be a time to give thanks for the great advances that have been made since 1952 and to look forward to the future with clear head and warm heart as we join together in our celebrations."
