Britain's Queen Elizabeth sent a personal message to a five-year-old boy after finding his balloon.

Charlie Castle - who, along with 80 classmates, released a numbered balloon to celebrate the end of his school term - was thrilled to discover the monarch had found his balloon as she walked her corgis 14 miles away on the grounds of Berkshire's Windsor Castle.

The royal's personal assistant Angela Kelly wrote: "Her majesty the queen has asked me to write to tell you that she found your balloon in her garden at Windsor Castle when she was walking her dogs. Her majesty was delighted to see how far it had flown and was so happy it was your balloon she found."

It was so exciting to get the letter. I was surprised my balloon had flown so far. I'm just glad that the queen's dogs didn't eat it!Charlie's mother, Kylie, added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper:

Charlie - who lives in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire - said: "It was so exciting to get the letter. I was surprised my balloon had flown so far. I'm just glad that the queen's dogs didn't eat it!"

Charlie's mother, Kylie, added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I nearly dropped the phone when I found out. It's lovely the queen cares about the normal things in life and appreciates what five-year-old boys care about.

"It's a huge coincidence that his name is Castle and his balloon landed at Windsor Castle. He's mad for castles."

The furthest balloon released from Little Marlow school was found in Bordeaux, south-west France.
