Britain's Queen Elizabeth II attended a service marking the 900thanniversary of the Ely Diocese.

The monarch - dressed in an orange dress coat and hat - arrived at the Cathedral in Ely, England, yesterday (19.11.09) with her husband Prince Philip by her side and was greeted by hundreds of well-wishers waiving Union Jack flags.

Youngsters presented the smiling queen with poises of flowers inside the cathedral.

She pleaded with Fraser to take more time to come to terms with the loss. But he is so devoted, he simply refused to be absent on her busiest day.

They later traveled to nearby Cambridge, where they met academics and helped to celebrate the famous university's 800th anniversary.

Earlier this week, the queen showed her sensitive side by comforting one of her footmen after he insisted on escorting her to the State Opening of Parliament just days after his brother was killed in Afghanistan.

The monarch is said to have pleaded with senior footman Fraser Marlton-Thomas, 25, to take time off, rather than accompany her on the traditional procession from Buckingham Palace to the Houses of Parliament.

A Palace source said: "When Loren laid down his life for his comrades, it was the Queen herself who was able to comfort a grieving brother.

"She pleaded with Fraser to take more time to come to terms with the loss. But he is so devoted, he simply refused to be absent on her busiest day."
