A car previously belonging to Britain's Queen Elizabeth has gone up for sale.

The royal vehicle, which was used by the monarch during 2001 and 2004 for driving around the grounds of her Windsor estate, is being sold on the open market and is likely to sell for thousands of pounds because of the personalised modifications she had made.

The car was released from Jaguar's collection of royal vehicles after it was no longer required by Buckingham Palace.

She was very clear about her requirements. She had an extra switch installed on each of the rear doors to control the windows on the opposite side. Apparently she doesn't like to have the wind blowing directly into her face.

It previously included a telephone link to Downing Street and the Home Office, but this was removed prior to sale.

Peter Ratcliffe, the specialist memorabilia dealer putting the car up for sale, expects it to be very popular because of the vehicles specifications.

He told The Independent newspaper: "It's a truly unique vehicle. There is nothing else out there, or ever going to be out there, that you can buy and say this was the personal car of the Queen of England, specially built for her.

"She was very clear about her requirements. She had an extra switch installed on each of the rear doors to control the windows on the opposite side. Apparently she doesn't like to have the wind blowing directly into her face."

The car also had special covers built into the magazine holders in the doors so the queen's much-loved dogs wouldn't slide off the seats onto them, and a sliding tray was added to the armrest so the monarch could place her handbag on top.
