Queen Margrethe Visits Viet Street Festival

Denmark's Queen Margrethe II attended a vibrant street festival in Vietnam yesterday (03.11.09) showing art from both countries to mark the royal visit.

The festival, which gathered more than 50 artists from Denmark and the south east Asian country, dazzled the queen and Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet with a displays of music, dance and visual arts.

The first day of the week-long event, a symbol of the friendship between Denmark and Vietnam, was launched in a park near Hanoi's Hoan Kiem Lake.

Queen Margrethe is visiting the country with her husband Henrik, who - along with Princess Mary and Prince Frederik - is revisiting his childhood home in the country.

The Danish royal family's emotional trip to the country has so far seen them visit Henrik's former family home in the Phan Dinh Phung area.

The 10-date stay has also seen the royal party wandering around the district and sightseeing on rickshaws.

French-born Henrik has also given his family a tour of his old house, talking about childhood memories while pointing out his much-loved former garden and pagoda.
