Queen Margrethe Visits Troops

Denmark's Queen Margrethe has visited British soldiers.

The monarch - who is colonel in chief of the 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment (PWRR) - visited the troops at their base in Paderborn, Germany and laid a wreath in memory of soldiers who have lost their lives in recent years.

She also watched a training ground exercise, where a simulated casualty received treatment for a serious injury.

Not only does it make me feel proud that such an important member of the regimental family is visiting, it is also an excellent opportunity for the whole battalion to get together and put on a show.

The soldiers said they felt "lucky" to have received the visit, which was only the queen's second in her role.

Corporal Nathanael Wrigglesworth, 29, from, said: "I feel lucky that after all these years the queen still has such a large interest in the PWRR and is prepared to take time out of her busy schedule and travel all the way to Germany and visit the battalion."

Lance Corporal Daniel Turner, 22, added: "Not only does it make me feel proud that such an important member of the regimental family is visiting, it is also an excellent opportunity for the whole battalion to get together and put on a show."
