Britain's Queen Mother enjoyed a strong cocktail and a nap after lunch, a historian has revealed.
The late royal - who died in 2002 at the age of 101 - insisted on a strong Martini and gin concoction to be made for her every day to a specific formula, Alistair Fraser has revealed.
Recalling her visit to Dounreay nuclear site in Caithness, Alistair - who used to work there - said: "Clarence House advised that the Queen Mother liked a nap after lunch and was partial to a Martini cocktail."
One worker was shown by local hotel staff how to make the drink, and prepared the cocktail under the supervision of a lady-in-waiting.
Alistair added to Britain's Daily Mirror: "As he carefully poured the measures from the optics, she declared, 'That's not how it's done!'
"With that, she removed the bottles, poured out a very liberal gin, followed by a very modest Martini, and proclaimed, 'Now that is the way Her Majesty likes it!'"
