Jordan's Queen Rania al-Abdullah prefers traditional Scottish drink Irn-Bru to Coca Cola.

The Jordanian royal is presently on a visit to Edinburgh where she and her husband, King Abdullah II Bin al-Hussein, have witnessed the participation of the Jordanian army in a military Tattoo - but also took time out to try some of the local delicacies.

This is fantastic. This is the diet version and it is still very sweet. It definitely beats Coke any day.

The queen was presented by light hearted locals with a packet of Tunnock's teacakes - a marshmallow and jam based chocolate treat - and bottles of fizzy orange pop, Irn-Bru, for her to sample.

After tasting a bottle of low-sugar Irn-Bru, she remarked: "This is fantastic. This is the diet version and it is still very sweet. It definitely beats Coke any day."

After the tattoo on Wednesday, Queen Rania,39, was the guest of honour at Edinburgh castle, before taking time out yesterday (19.08.10) to visit her favourite English teacher.

The Queen visited George Heriot's School in the Scottish capital yesterday (19.08.10) to catch up with Robert Dickson, who had been her English teacher while she attended the New English School in Kuwait before outbreak of the first Gulf war in 1991.

After the meeting the Queen said: "All of us have memories of a teacher who had a profound impact on our lives.

"Sometimes Mr Dickson was cruel to be kind with us, but he really did give me a lot of confidence, and I think the knowledge and the skills he has passed on to me have really been invaluable for me carrying out my duties. I am not sure I would have been able to carry them out in the same way if I hadn't had those skills. I am very indebted to him."
