The wife of Thailand's Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn has given birth to a son.Mom Srirasmi Mahidol, the second wife of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's only son, delivered the baby by at Bangkok's Siriraj hospital on Friday evening (29.03.04).A statement issued by the royal household said: "The baby boy weighs 2680 grams. The baby and Mom Srirasmi are doing well and the doctors are satisfied." The baby, who was due later this month, had to be delivered by caesarean section after doctors said it wouldn't be possible for the child to be born naturally.The 34-year-old - who does not have a royal title - was supported by her husband throughout the birth before greeting visitors including mother-in-law, Queen Sirikit, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Princess Bajrakitiyabha.In a radio address Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said: "This is the greatest joy of Thai citizens."The baby seals the love between Mom Srirasmi and the prince, who married the after meeting him in 1993 when she worked as a royal aide.The child, who has not yet been named, is the couple's first child together, while the prince has a daughter from his first marriage to Princess Somsawali.
Meanwhile, the royal family held a funeral ceremony for the King's grandson Khun Poom Jensen on Saturday (30.04.05) after he was killed in the Asian tsunami.
The funeral procession for the 21-year-old, who was the son of Princess Ubolratana and her estranged American husband Peter Jenson, was attended by thousands of mourners who lined the streets on the way to the Debsirin Temple.
