Britain's Prince Charles and his new wife congratulated Wales' Grand Slam-winning rugby team this weekend, in their first official royal engagement since their wedding last month. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall presented Welsh team captain, Gareth Thomas with the Six Nations cup in front of 20,000 fans gathered at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to celebrate the team's historic win against Ireland last month. The royal couple chatted to the players from the Welsh under-21 team - who also won their Grand Slam match - as well as officials and politicians gathered to join the celebrations. The newlywed pair also spoke to second row player, Brent Cockbain, whose charity, which was set up in memory of his baby son was set to receive some of the proceeds from the event.Cockbain said afterwards: "He just asked me how I got through the Six Nations without any injuries, that sort of thing."But Charles and Camilla faced embarrassment after sections of the crowd appeared to boo when their presence was announced on the stadium loudspeaker. The prince, who was invested as prince of Wales on his 21st birthday, continues his support of the national team while his sister, Princess Anne, last month showed her support for Scottish Rugby by announcing plans to attend the country's cup final later this year.0Comments | Be the first to comment!
