The death of Britain's Princess Diana is soon to be studied by university students as part of a degree course on conspiracy theories.Diana was tragically killed in a Paris car crash in 1997 and conspiracy theories surrounding her death have been in circulation ever since. Now students at Derby University will study the theories in a course called Apocalyptic and Paranoid Cultures. The university's course will also cover theories about the September 11 terrorist attacks and Dan Brown's novel 'The Da Vinci Code'. University staff believe conspiracy theories have gained credence in recent years due to a massive decline of faith in traditional religions and a lack of trust for politicians.Andrew Wilson, senior lecturer in sociology and popular culture at Derby, said: "Our work in this area of the sociology degree will encourage students to explore official and less widely believed versions of history in order to discover what they can tell us about the society and cultures in which we live."The course will suggest that public society has become "paranoid" in its thoughts and such paranoia can no longer be treated as an extreme view of the world.
