Britain's Sarah Ferguson and late Princess Diana used to race to the royal dinner table to ensure they got a good seat.

The Duchess of York, who is divorced from Prince Andrew, has revealed she and Diana were desperate to ensure they didn't have to sit next to certain members of the royal family at mealtimes.

She said: "We were very young and we talked about everything. There was no woman with a better sense of humour than Diana. She was also very clever - she'd been in the Royal Family a bit longer than me and she knew all the tricks.

"She knew that if she ran quicker into dinner than I did, then she wouldn't have to sit next to somebody who was rather difficult.

We were very young and we talked about everything. There was no woman with a better sense of humour than Diana. She was also very clever - she'd been in the Royal Family a bit longer than me and she knew all the tricks.

"She'd get there before me and sit down next to an equerry, and I always got the somebody who was rather difficult. Eventually, we were both running down the corridor to see who could get there first."

Diana, whose marriage to Prince Charles ended in divorce in 1996, died in a Paris car crash in 1997.

Meanwhile, Sarah has shut her US lifestyle and promotions business Hartmoor LLC after it lost $2 million in three years.

It has been claimed the business failed to win big endorsement details, while Sarah's professional relationship with business partner investment banker Todd Morley crumbled.

A source told Britain's News of the World newspaper: "Sarah is in a huge money mess. It's a huge setback and she is very upset."

Sarah is now said to having taken out a $1 million loan to repay creditors.

It is not the first time Sarah has experienced financial difficulty.

After her divorce it was claimed she owed bank Coutts $6.6 million. She paid back the money by launching a career in America.

The source added: "She is trying to keep her spirits up, but she knows she faces a lot of work to recoup her losses. But she is a fighter. She had debts before and bounced back. She can do it again."
