The Duchess of Cambridge will enjoy a whirlwind solo tour of Malta later this year where she visit the country's beauty spots, attend parties and view a number of historical masterpieces while staying in Malta on behalf of the Queen in late September as the country celebrates the 50th anniversary of its independence from the United Kingdom.

Duchess Catherine

The 32-year-old royal - who is set to travel to Malta without the accompaniment of her husband Prince William and their son Prince George - will enjoy a two-day stay on the Mediterranean island on behalf of the Queen in late September as the country celebrates the 50th anniversary of its independence from the United Kingdom.

Duchess Catherine's tour will begin with a meeting with the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat at the Auberge de Castille where she will view the In Guardia re-enactment at the Palace Square, Valletta.

Next the pretty brunette will call at the National Library to view the country's prized historical documents, including correspondence between Kings Henry VII and George II.

She will then attend an official Independence Day reception at the Upper Barrakka before spending the night at President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca's San Anton Palace.

On the last day of the tour the Duchess' appointments include attending Mass at St John's Co-Cathedral, visiting staff and clients at Agenzija Zghazagh in Vittoriosa - where she will also enjoy a tour of the Church of St Lawrence followed by a boat trip in Grand Harbour - before ending her stay at a Garden Party hosted by the British High Commissioner.

Malta is said to be a country close to the Queen's heart as she lived there for two years while she and her husband Prince Philip were newlyweds, as he was serving in the Royal Navy, and she reportedly cherishes the memory of living a relatively normal life during her stay on the island.
