Britain's Prince George received a gift from the wife of New Zealand's Prime Minister John Key yesterday (14.04.14).

The 8-month-old son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - who is currently on his first royal tour in New Zealand - was gifted with a Hairy Maclary 'touch and feel' book by Bronagh Key, who is ambassador for the Blind Foundation charity.

Prime Minister John Key, his wife Bronagh and son Max were dining with the royal couple last night, and although there was no formal exchange of gifts, Mrs Key passed the book - which is designed for visually impaired children - on to Duchess Catherine at the request of the Blind Foundation.

Mr Key told The New Zealand Herald newspaper: "She seemed very pleased with it.

"I don't want to overstate things but I do sort of feel I know them [the Duke and Duchess] well now. We've had a considerable amount of time together. The three visits to New Zealand by Prince William, obviously their wedding, and we caught up in Balmoral. So it really was just convivial."

The Prime Minister also stated that his dinner guests appeared to be "really pleased" to be visiting New Zealand.

The royal couple are set to leave for Australia tomorrow (16.04.14) afternoon after visiting the Royal New Zealand Police College.
