Prince Philip

Britain's Prince Philip returned to his old school earlier this week (15.09.14) to mark the institution's 80th anniversary.

The Duke of Edinburgh returned to Gordonstoun school, where he became the tenth pupil to attend when he arrived in September 1934.

In recognition of the school's landmark achievement, he greeted current students and staff.

Among the children he spoke to was Year 13 student Isobel Armstrong, who told pressandjournal.co.uk: "He was super nice and approachable.

"He asked where I was from and what house I'm in. I didn't think he'd know the Isle of Arran.

"It was interesting to see what he was like because you see him on TV all the time but to say he was an ex-Gordonstounian is amazing."

Another of the students, Annabel Devey, said: "It's been really exciting and I think quite a lot has changed since he was here, and we can show him what has changed and what's improved."

Meanwhile, The Duke of Edinburgh's wife, Britain's Queen Elizabeth, said recently that she hopes Scots have a serious think before voting in this week's referendum on independence.
