Elizabeth Hurley insists her 'The Royals' character isn't based on Britain's Queen Elizabeth.

The 49-year-old actress portrays monarch Queen Helena in the forthcoming E! show and though she is adamant the racy drama doesn't really reflect the life of the real royal family, she joked it could well do as no one knows what happens "behind closed doors".

Elizabeth Hurley may play a British monarch in 'The Royals' but she insists her portrayal is nothing like the real Queen Elizabeth

She said: "There's little resemblance to Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Queen of England.

"But you never know. The beauty of this show is that we go behind closed doors."

And the 'Bedazzled' star has promised lots of "drama and glamour" for those tuning in.

She said: "You need to want to see drama and heightened stuff and a lot of glamour. If that's your bag, you might get lucky."

Elizabeth says the show is so racy, she won't be letting her 12-year-old son Damian tune in.

She said: "This is an extreme, sexy adventure into royalty.

"It's quite out there. For me this is like sex, drugs and rock 'n roll at Windsor Castle...

"I don't want [Damian] to read the scripts and I certainly don't want him to watch it!"
