Prince Harry has thanked the public for their support of the Invictus Games.

The international sporting event for wounded military personnel was held for the first time earlier this month in London, with Prince Harry being one of the event's chief organisers.

In a video posted on the Facebook page of the event which showed highlights from the four-day Games, Prince Harry said: "Thank you to everybody for your huge support for the Invictus Games this year.

"Over the last four days between the 10th and 14th of September 2014 here, in the Olympic park, we had over 400 wounded ex-service men and women, fighting it out on the sports field to win as many medals as they can for their countries."

Sports including athletics, archery, swimming, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, archery, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling and sitting volleyball all took place across the Games, with athletes from 13 countries competing.

Explaining the reason why he decided to organise the Games, he added: "The point of it was to show how sport can play a hugely important part in the rehabilitation of these individuals."

The Invictus Games 2014 were celebrated with a closing concert broadcast on BBC Two, with performances from Foo Fighters, James Blunt, Ellie Goulding, Rizzle Kicks and Bryan Adams.
