Prince Harry

Britain's Prince Harry was left "shocked" after a police outrider escorting him to the Invictus Games was injured in a high-speed crash yesterday (11.09.14).

The 29-year-old royal looked on in disbelief as his bodyguards treated the police officer, who was thrown 30ft down the road, and the unconscious taxi driver - who had to be cut from his car by the fire service - after they collided on Prince Albert Road in London.

An eye witness told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I could see Prince Harry clearly in the back of the car with his head in his hands. He looked really distressed and was constantly looking back over his shoulder to see what was happening. It was clear that for security reasons he had to stay in the car."

The motorcyclist from the Special Escort Group and the driver of the Toyota Prius were rushed to hospital, but were later said to be in a "stable" condition.

Harry's convoy waited at the scene for the emergency services to arrive before continuing their journey to the competition at Lee Valley Park in north London.

A spokesman for Harry said last night: "The prince was obviously very concerned and wanted to make sure the men were OK. He is relieved to hear they are both in a stable condition."

The Metropolitan Police has begun an investigation into the accident, which occurred at around 9.40am.
