Prince William

A portrait of Britain's Prince William will be sold at auction for £15,000.

The oil-on-canvas painting - which was created by Welsh-born artist Dan Llywelyn Hall to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One - is entitled 'Fatherhood' and will go on sale at the prestigious Bonham's auction house in London's Knightsbridge today (01.10.14) with a guide price of £15,000 to £20,000.

The painting - which was based upon a meeting at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff when the 32-year-old royal arrived to view Dan's 'Icon' portrait of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II - took three months to create and depicts the future king in a suit and tie with a stand-out red poppy in his lapel, reports the Yorkshire Post.

All the proceeds from the sale of the 90cm by 60cm portrait will go to the Victoria Cross Trust and the War Memorials Trust in tribute to those who lost their lives in the First World War.

Dan said: "On the centenary of the Somme where such horror consumed the lives of over a million people it seems appropriate to support two charities that uphold the memory and acknowledge the legacy of our forefathers."
