The 91-year-old royal is currently staying in her Scottish residence of Balmoral, and after meeting with the Australian Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove on Thursday (21.09.17), the pair laughed together as the bemoaned the "gloomy" weather.

Peter said upon meeting the monarch: "The rain has been unceasing."

To which the Queen laughed and replied: "Yes, we were just saying that it really is rather gloomy today I'm afraid."

The Queen's meeting with the Australian Governor comes after she previously met with Julie Payette, the governor general of Canada, earlier this week, and offered fans of the Royal Family a rare insight into her life in Balmoral Castle with a photo taken from inside her library.

Fans were able to marvel at how the Queen lives once again after her meeting on Thursday, as a picture shared from inside another room of the lavish abode features an old model of Apple's iPod, plugged in to a docking station, which has set tongues wagging as to what kind of playlists the royal has stored on the device.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip - who is married to the Queen - has been noticeably absent from the meetings after retiring from public appearances earlier this year, although it was previously announced he would still continue to support the monarch on certain public outings.

A statement released at the time read: "His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year. In taking this decision.

"Prince Philip will attend previously scheduled engagements between now and August, both individually and accompanying The Queen. Thereafter, The Duke will not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements.

"Although he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time."
